To join The Hunt, participants 18 years old and older must visit a Volvo retailer to pick up a special pirate chart then register at the companys Web site any time between now and May 29. Winners will only be eligible if they can produce the original pirate chart upon conclusion of The Hunt. Once registered online, pirates could set sail on a virtual high seas adventure, sojourning exotic locations around the world and collecting clues that point to the treasure chests location. The participants have to solve a series of challenging and cool online puzzles to get the elusive treasure.

As the online search progresses, the puzzles will become increasingly difficult to solve. On the second day of June, the first person from each of the 22 participating markets to finish the online hunt will compete against one another in one final exciting online challenge. The first of those 22 individuals to solve the final puzzle will be named the winner and will be given a trip to the burial location to retrieve the chest filled with Volvos treasure.

In addition to the United States, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom also are taking part in The Hunt.

Earlier, the Swedish automaker has given ten spots where it did not sink its treasure. The spots include the Dead Sea, Red Sea, Sea of Love, Sea of Tranquility, Caspian Sea, Treasure Island, Bermuda Triangle, Atlantis, Sea World and Watergate.

“Three-quarters of the earth’s surface is under water, so finding a sunken treasure chest is not going to be easy,” said Linda Gangeri, the national advertising manager for Volvo Cars of North America. “We want our hunt to be challenging, but we don’t want participants to become discouraged, so we thought we’d help narrow the playing field by revealing ten places where ‘X’ doesn’t mark the spot.”

“Okay, okay. Maybe it is a stretch to call The Hunt one of the greatest mysteries of the deep, but it certainly has got a lot of people flummoxed,” added Gangeri. “We thought some of our more prodigious participants might enjoy pitting their wit and skill against some age-old mysteries… but even if they solve them, the only way to get your hands on Volvo’s treasure is by joining our Hunt!”

There are many factors to consider when choosing the best automotive paint for your everyday vehicle or classic car restoration project. To most car collectors, the look and color of a car paint is the most important factor. Other things to keep in mind include cost, application difficulty level, length of drying time, possible health hazards, and base-coat and finishing options. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll narrow them down to the top four most important differences: cost, difficulty level, durability and purpose. Acrylic and urethane are two of the most common automotive paints, yet they have very important distinctions. This article will help you choose the right car paint for your car project.

Cost

Cost is the only practical area in which acrylic enamel car paint has the clear advantage over urethane car paint, which costs more than twice as much. Acrylic lacquer paints cost up to $250 a gallon, and acrylic enamel costs only $100-$150 per gallon.

Difficulty Level

Application: If properly cut and polished, the finished appearance of acrylic car paint is unbeatable. Urethane paint will give your car a “fresh look,” and is easier to apply than acrylic enamel, which can only be applied with high-pressure spray guns. Acrylic car paints require more coats (6-8), and must always be cut and polished, after letting it harden for several weeks. Single pack acrylic primers and fillers tend to shrink and sink back on repairs, so only use them on a final, even prime coat, and give it as long as possible to harden before wet sanding. Both acetone, thinners and fuel spillage damage acrylic paints, and they require more maintenance to keep your car finish shiny. In contrast, if a urethane paint job goes well, it needs no buffing, and un-buffed paint is the longest lasting and easiest to keep clean. If it is baked on, the car can be assembled the next day.

CAUTION: Urethane paints are toxic, as they contain isocyanate, airborne compounds that enter the body through the lungs and skin. Always use safety gear (goggles, mask and gloves) and proper ventilation when working with urethane paint. Acrylic automotive paints are less toxic because they are water-based, so the resin adheres using water as its primary agent, whereas urethane depends on a solvent.

Durability

Urethane finishes are much more durable than acrylic enamel finishes. There are many factors that vary the exact length of time a finish lasts, but urethane finishes, when properly maintained, generally last 5-10 years longer than acrylic enamel finishes. Urethane paints are activated by hardeners, so after they are mixed, they must be used promptly or the product is wasted. Acrylic enamel paint is prone to more chipping, cracking and general wear and tear, since it does not feature the hardeners.

Vehicle windows get dirty quickly from driving, or even just sitting in the garage or driveway. Thankfully, they are easy to clean with just a little glass cleaner and some cleaning towels.

Cleaning auto glass is really a three-step process. First, wash the entire car with soap and water. Soft cotton rags work best for this, as they are absorbent and do not scratch the paint even when used with mild scrubbing. It is best to clean the interior of the vehicle, and especially the doors, first. That way, dust and dirt are not transferred to the already clean windows.

Next, clean the glass both inside and out with the glass cleaner of your choice. Finally, wipe the entire car down with clean cotton rags for a streak-free shine. It is best to do this on an overcast day, as cleaning a car in direct sunlight or trying to clean warm glass can leave streaks, which spoils the effect.

To clean the inside of the windshield, sit in the passenger’s seat and wipe it down carefully with one of the cleaning towels or rags dampened with just a little cleaner. Wipe up and down and side to side, with long even strokes, then buff with a clean, dry cloth. Take special care around the rearview mirror, because you do not want to knock it loose or leave an uncleaned area around it, and very carefully clean the mirror itself.

Next, clean the side windows. If the window is in a frame, roll it down about an inch so that the top is showing. Clean the top first, then buff it dry. Next, roll it up and clean the rest of the window. Pay special attention to the corners, because they attract the worst smears and streaks. Remember to clean the drivers and passengers side mirrors as well.

The inside of the rear window should be done last, because it is often the hardest to reach. The best was to clean the corners and edges of the rear glass is with the back of the hand, pushing the cloth where it needs to go.
